Tips & secrets
About the game

Robot hero Mega Man stops six Robot Masters gone rogue under Dr. Wily, stealing their weapons as he goes. It introduced a hugely popular series and the choose-your-stage formula.

Kit's verdict · 7.5/10A rough but brilliant first draft, with great ideas and some very sharp edges. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Pick your own boss order
  • Weapon-stealing gives depth
  • Great early chiptunes

Not so much

  • No passwords or E-Tanks
  • Score system is pointless and stages are uneven

Play it if platformer fans who want the series' origin.

Skip it if anyone who wants Mega Man 2's polish.

Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

Mega Man doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. The Magnet Beam you need to finish is in Elec Man's stage, behind blocks only Guts Man's Super Arm can lift, so beat Guts Man first.
  2. Elec Man's Thunder Beam shreds most bosses and goes through enemies.
  3. Use the Super Arm to pick up and throw blocks at enemies.
  4. Pause and unpause quickly while a shot passes through Mega Man to get extra hits on bosses.
  5. Fire Man is weak to Ice Slasher, and Ice Man is weak to Thunder Beam.
  6. The Yellow Devil's pattern is fixed, so learn which blocks fly where.
