Madeline climbs a mountain while fighting her own anxiety, one tough single-screen challenge at a time. It's a razor-sharp platformer with a big heart and some of the best controls ever made.
Kit's verdict · 9.4/10
Brutally hard, endlessly kind, and controls like a dream.Kit · Sadkitty Games
Loved
- Perfect, responsive controls
- Instant respawns make failure painless
- Moving story and Lena Raine's soundtrack
Not so much
- B-Sides and C-Sides get extremely punishing
- Strawberry collecting can feel pointless
Play it if anyone who loves precise platforming or a heartfelt story about mental health.
Skip it if players who hate dying hundreds of times, though Assist Mode helps a lot.

Celeste doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.
Tips
Play it better
- Your dash refills when you touch the ground, so plan routes around where you can land.
- Climbing drains stamina. Madeline flashes red when she's about to let go.
- You can still jump for a split second after running off a ledge, which helps on tight gaps.
- Dashing diagonally down into the ground and jumping (a wavedash) carries big speed across the floor.
- Strawberries are optional and only affect a small bonus. Skip them if they're frustrating you.
- Assist Mode lets you slow the game, add dashes or turn on invincibility. Use it with no shame.
- Death counts are shown as a badge of honor, not a failure.
