About the game

A 3D platformer and first Wii entry in the Super Mario franchise, Super Mario Galaxy sees Mario jump across planets and galaxies with varying items, enemies, geographies and gravity mechanics in order to reach his enemy Bowser, who has attacked the Mushroom Kingdom and hijacked Princess Peach's castle with her inside.

Kit's verdict · 9.7/10Pure joy: a nonstop stream of brilliant ideas set to a gorgeous orchestral score. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Gravity-bending level design
  • Stunning orchestral soundtrack
  • Constant new ideas

Not so much

  • Camera occasionally fights you
  • Motion controls for some challenges are fiddly

Play it if anyone who loves platformers, at any age.

Skip it if players who want pure open sandbox levels like Super Mario 64.

Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

Super Mario Galaxy doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. Shake the Wii Remote to spin; it attacks, stuns and extends jumps.
  2. Collect star bits and feed them to Hungry Lumas to open new galaxies.
  3. A second player can use another remote to collect star bits and freeze enemies.
  4. Long jumps, backflips and wall jumps all work; master them for tricky areas.
  5. Prankster Comets add timed or speed challenges to galaxies you've already visited.
