Tips & secrets
About the game

A genetically altered bandicoot spins and jumps across three islands to rescue his girlfriend from Doctor Neo Cortex. It gave the PlayStation its first mascot and pioneered the 'corridor' style of 3D platformer.

Kit's verdict · 7.4/10Gorgeous and charming, but the first game's difficulty spikes are brutal. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Stunning visuals for 1996
  • Tight, fast linear levels
  • Big personality and animation

Not so much

  • Saving only through bonus rounds or passwords
  • Some late levels are unfairly hard

Play it if platformer fans who like hard, focused levels to master.

Skip it if players who hate repeating levels after cheap deaths.

Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

Crash Bandicoot doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. Collect three Tawna tokens in a level to reach a bonus round where you can save your game.
  2. Aku Aku masks stack: three in a row make you briefly invincible.
  3. Break every crate in a level without dying to earn a gem.
  4. Spinning hits enemies and crates, but jumping on them is safer near edges.
  5. On the rope-bridge levels, watch for loose planks and wait for them to settle before moving.
