About the game

Chell wakes up in a decaying Aperture Science lab and must solve test chambers with a portal gun, accompanied by a nervy robot and a vengeful AI. It turns physics puzzles into one of the funniest games ever written. A separate two-player co-op campaign is just as clever.

Kit's verdict · 9.7/10Near-flawless puzzle design married to genuinely hilarious writing. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Brilliant, escalating puzzles
  • Laugh-out-loud writing and voice acting
  • Excellent co-op campaign

Not so much

  • Little replay value once solved
  • Some long stretches between chambers

Play it if anyone who likes clever puzzles and great comedy.

Skip it if players who want action or combat.

Tips

Play it better

  1. Speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out: fall into a floor portal to fling yourself across gaps.
  2. Look for white, flat panels; only those accept portals.
  3. Repulsion gel bounces you, propulsion gel speeds you up, and conversion gel lets you put portals anywhere it lands.
  4. Use light bridges as shields against turrets.
  5. In co-op, use the ping tool to point exactly where your partner should place a portal.
  6. If stuck, think about what in the room you haven't used yet; every element matters.
