The second entry in the Silent Hill franchise, Silent Hill 2 is a narrative-focused third-person psychological survival horror game with emphasis on combat, exploration and puzzle-solving elements which follows James Sunderland, a man who receives a letter, seemingly sent by his three-years-deceased wife Mary, in which he is beckoned to the fog-ridden town of Silent Hill at the same time as numerous other people troubled by their past.

- Akira Yamaoka's soundtrack is untouchable
- Monster design that means something
Not so much
- Combat is clumsy and stiff
- Tank-style controls take getting used to
Play it if anyone who wants horror that gets under your skin and stays there for weeks.

Cheats & codes
No cheat codes
Silent Hill 2 doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.
Tips
Play it better
- Action and Riddle difficulty are set separately, so you can keep fights easy and puzzles hard, or the other way round.
- The pocket radio crackles when a monster is near; listen to it before you walk into a dark room.
- Downed enemies aren't dead until you stomp them, so finish every one off before moving on.
- Red squares are save points; there's no autosave, so use them whenever you pass one.
- James marks locked doors and clues on your map automatically, so check it often instead of trying every door twice.
- You don't have to beat Pyramid Head in his set-piece fights; dodge and survive until the scene ends.
- How you treat your health, how often you look at certain items and how you treat Maria all quietly change which ending you get.
