Martial artist Billy Lee fights through street gangs to rescue his girlfriend Marian. The arcade hit defined the beat-'em-up genre, and the NES port reworked it with a skill-unlock system.
Kit's verdict · 6.5/10
Influential and fun to punch through, but the NES version oddly removed co-op and adds awful platforming.Kit · Sadkitty Games
Loved
- Satisfying moves like elbow and knee strikes
- Great music
- Unlockable move system
Not so much
- No two-player co-op in the main game
- Clumsy jumping sections
Play it if beat-'em-up fans curious about the genre's roots.
Skip it if anyone hoping for co-op couch action.
Cheats & codes

Double Dragon doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.
Tips
Play it better
- Earn experience hearts by landing hits to unlock new moves like the jump kick and hair grab.
- The backward elbow (back attack while facing away) wipes out enemies who sneak up behind you.
- Grab enemies by walking into them when they're stunned, then knee them repeatedly.
- Pick up bats, whips and knives; enemies drop them when knocked down.
- The platform jumps in later missions are the real killer, so jump only from the very edge.
- Abobo is easy if you jump kick him repeatedly then retreat.
