Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

Amnesia: The Dark Descent doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. Never look straight at a monster; it drains your sanity and gives away your position.
  2. Close doors behind you; monsters have to break them down, which buys time.
  3. Don't waste tinderboxes lighting every candle; save them for rooms you'll spend time in.
  4. Your lantern oil is limited, so let your eyes adjust in dim areas instead of keeping it on.
  5. Darkness hurts sanity, but light gives you away; balance the two when a monster is near.
  6. Drag doors open slowly with the mouse to peek through without stepping in.
  7. Solving puzzles and progressing restores some sanity.
