Dispatch
Robert Robertson used to be Mecha Man. Now his suit is wrecked and he's working at a superhero dispatch center, sending a team of reformed villains out to emergencies. AdHoc, founded by Telltale veterans, turns that premise into a sharp, funny and surprisingly tender workplace comedy.
Between story scenes you run dispatch shifts: reading calls, matching heroes' abilities and personalities to the job, and living with the fallout when you get it wrong. It's simple, but it gives your choices weight beyond a dialogue wheel.
The animation and voice cast are excellent. The dispatch layer is light and can get repetitive, so players hunting for deep strategy won't find it here. As interactive television, though, it's the best the format has looked in a decade.
Kit liked
- Genuinely funny writing
- Choices with real consequences
- Gorgeous animation
- A great voice cast
Kit didn't
- The dispatch gameplay is shallow
- Short overall
- Read every call carefully. The best hero for the job isn't always the strongest.
- Think about personalities, not just stats. Who works well together matters.
- Your choices carry between episodes, so play the version of Robert you believe in.
