Ghost of Yōtei
It's 1603. Atsu returns to Ezo — modern-day Hokkaido — hunting the six people who killed her family. Sucker Punch trades Tsushima's stances for an arsenal: katana, dual blades, odachi, spear and kusarigama, each a counter to a different kind of enemy. It's the best combat the studio has made.
The world is the star. Mount Yōtei hangs over everything, and the 'follow the wind' minimalism returns, so exploring feels like discovery rather than a checklist. Camping, playing the shamisen and following wolves are small, lovely ideas.
But the structure is familiar, side activities repeat, and the revenge plot hits predictable beats. It's an excellent game that occasionally feels like a remaster of a dream you've already had.
Kit liked
- Spectacular art direction
- Weapon-swap combat is deep and fluid
- Exploration without map clutter
- Atsu is a great lead
Kit didn't
- A familiar open-world structure
- Repetitive side activities
- A predictable revenge arc
- Match your weapon to the enemy. Each weapon counters a different type, so swap mid-fight.
- Follow the guiding wind instead of the map. Exploration feels better that way.
- Take the side paths. The best moments are often off the main road.
The most beautiful open world on PS5, carrying a revenge story it can't quite sharpen.Kit · Sadkitty Games · Est. 1995
