Tips & secrets
About the game

Fei, an amnesiac painter, gets caught up in a war between nations and a deeper struggle tied to God, giant robots and forgotten history. It's a sprawling, philosophical epic that ran out of budget halfway through.

Kit's verdict · 8.2/10A brilliant, broken masterpiece whose ambition outruns its budget. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Huge ideas about faith, memory and identity
  • Combo-based Deathblow combat
  • Yasunori Mitsuda's beautiful soundtrack

Not so much

  • Disc 2 is mostly narrated cutscenes
  • Clunky platforming and slow pacing

Play it if fans of philosophical stories and giant robot anime.

Skip it if players who need polished gameplay throughout.

Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

Xenogears doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. Learn Deathblows by experimenting with button combos; once learned, they deal bigger damage.
  2. Watch Gear fuel. Running out mid-dungeon is a real problem, so buy fuel and upgrades often.
  3. Save AP to unleash big combos at once rather than spending every turn.
  4. Use Gear upgrades at shops each time you reach a new town.
  5. Gears can't heal much in long fights, so stock repair items before boss sections.
