About the game

Twenty years after aliens won the war, XCOM is a resistance cell flying a stolen ship and fighting a ticking clock. It mixes squad tactics with base management, and every soldier you lose stays lost.

Kit's verdict · 9.1/10Tense, brutal and brilliant turn-based tactics that make every 95% shot feel like a coin toss. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Gripping guerilla missions with timers
  • Deep soldier customisation
  • War of the Chosen adds huge variety

Not so much

  • Long load times
  • Missions can feel random and unfair

Play it if anyone who loves tactics and is happy to lose people they've grown attached to.

Skip it if players who hate randomness or losing progress.

Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

XCOM 2 doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. Use concealment to set up ambushes with overwatch before your first shot.
  2. Flank enemies so cover doesn't protect them, as flanked shots hit more and crit more.
  3. Build a Guerilla Tactics School early for squad size upgrades.
  4. Keep the Avatar Project bar under control by hitting facility missions when it rises.
  5. Rotate soldiers so a single injury doesn't wipe out your veteran pool.
  6. Grenades destroy cover and always hit, so use them when shots look bad.
