Tips

Play it better

  1. Build farms ahead of time. Running out of food stalls your whole production line.
  2. Oil wins naval maps. Grab offshore oil patches early with a shipyard and oil tanker.
  3. Ogre-Magi with Bloodlust and Paladins with Healing are each side's strongest late-game units.
  4. Use flyers (Gnomish Flying Machine or Goblin Zeppelin) to scout the fog of war before attacking.
  5. Catapults and ballistas can hit your own units, so keep them behind the front line.
  6. Chop forests strategically to open a shorter path, or leave them as natural walls.

  • The Beyond the Dark Portal expansion followed in 1996.
  • Blizzard's own voice actors were mostly staff members recording in-house.
  • A Battle.net Edition released in 1999 brought it online for free.
