The Sims 3 opened up the whole neighbourhood, letting Sims walk to the park, the gym or a neighbour's house without a loading screen. Its Create-a-Style tool let you recolour anything, and many fans still call it the series high point.
Kit's verdict · 8.6/10
The most ambitious Sims game, held back only by how slowly it runs.Kit · Sadkitty Games
Loved
- Seamless open neighbourhood
- Create-a-Style lets you recolour every object
- Deep traits and long-term goals
Not so much
- Performance gets sluggish, especially with expansions
- Sims can look plasticky next to newer games
Play it if players who want a living town where Sims have whole lives beyond the front door.
Skip it if anyone with a weak PC or no patience for lag.

Tips
Play it better
- Pick traits that work together: Bookworm and Genius speed up Logic and Writing, and Athletic makes fitness easy.
- Write novels early, since books keep paying royalties every week for the rest of a Sim's life.
- Grow and sell perfect-quality plants for steady cash with the Gardening skill.
- Collect gems, metals and insects around town, then sell or display them.
- Turn off Story Progression in options if you don't want the game moving and marrying unplayed Sims.
- Clean up save files with a fresh save copy occasionally, as old saves bloat and slow down.
