Guybrush Threepwood wants to be a pirate, and he has to pass three trials on Mélée Island to prove it. It's the funniest point-and-click adventure of its era and set the standard for fair puzzle design.

The Secret of Monkey Island doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.
Tips
Play it better
- In insult swordfighting you learn new insults and comebacks by losing fights. Brawl with random pirates on the island to fill your list before facing the Sword Master.
- Each insult has one correct comeback. Matching them is what wins the duel, not sword skill.
- Look at everything and talk to everyone twice. Many hints are tucked in throwaway dialogue.
- Pick up the rubber chicken. You'll need it, and its pulley is a real puzzle solution.
- Money comes from more than one place on Mélée Island, including the circus.
- You can't die in the normal sense, so try weird item combinations freely.
