Tips & secrets
About the game

Civ's sixth main entry spreads each city across the map with districts, turning city planning into a spatial puzzle. It is the busiest, most colourful Civ, with years of expansions and leader packs.

Kit's verdict · 8.3/10Smarter cities and more ideas than ever, held back by a weak AI and endless micromanagement. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Districts make city placement matter
  • Eurekas reward how you play
  • Gorgeous theme and art style

Not so much

  • AI struggles with its own rules
  • Late game drags with busywork

Play it if planners who love optimising cities and puzzle-like layouts.

Skip it if players who want a sharp, challenging AI opponent.

Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

Sid Meier's Civilization VI doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. Plan districts around adjacency bonuses, such as Campuses next to mountains and Holy Sites by forests.
  2. District costs rise as you research, so lay them down early even if you can't fill them yet.
  3. Chase Eureka and Inspiration triggers to cut research and civics time in half.
  4. Housing caps growth; settle by rivers, lakes or coast for fresh water.
  5. Builders have limited charges, so prioritise improvements that boost your key cities.
  6. Pick a pantheon early since the good ones go fast.

  • Ed Beach led the design, and districts were inspired by unstacking cities the way Civ V unstacked units.
  • The Rise and Fall (2018) and Gathering Storm (2019) expansions added loyalty, eras, climate change and disasters.
