The turn-based empire builder where you guide a civilisation from the Stone Age to the Space Age. It swapped squares for hexes and stacks for single units, and with its expansions became many fans' favourite Civ.
Kit's verdict · 9.0/10
With both expansions, it's the cleanest, most addictive 'one more turn' machine ever built.Kit · Sadkitty Games
Loved
- Hex map and one-unit-per-tile make war tactical
- City-states add rich diplomacy
- Brave New World expansion is superb
Not so much
- The base game alone feels hollow
- AI is easily exploited on lower difficulties
Play it if strategy fans who want deep play without drowning in systems.
Skip it if anyone who wants real-time action or quick sessions.

Tips
Play it better
- Keep an eye on global happiness; luxury resources are the cheapest way to keep a growing empire content.
- Puppet conquered cities instead of annexing them to avoid a big happiness hit.
- Tradition suits small, tall empires while Liberty suits wide, expanding ones.
- Send gold or quest help to city-states to borrow their units, food and votes.
- Settle near rivers and luxuries, and don't plant cities too close together early on.
- Build Workers early; improved tiles beat almost any early building.
