The second Civilization refines the original with isometric graphics, smarter AI, more units and wonders, and full-motion video advisors. Many fans still call it the series' peak.

Tips
Play it better
- Expand early with Settlers. A wide empire of small cities snowballs faster than a few large ones.
- Build caravans and use them to finish wonders or set up trade routes with distant cities.
- Republic gives great trade, but war weariness hits hard. Switch to Monarchy or Communism when fighting a long war.
- Diplomats can steal technology from enemy cities. It's often cheaper than research.
- Leonardo's Workshop upgrades old units for free, which is huge in a war-heavy game.
- Defend coastal cities with Coastal Fortresses once enemy navies appear.
