About the game

An augmented-reality game that puts Pokémon on a real-world map, so you catch them by walking around your town. Its 2016 launch was a global craze that filled parks and streets with players.

Kit's verdict · 8.0/10A shallow game wrapped in a genuinely magical idea: Pokémon in your actual neighbourhood. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Community events are a real social thing
  • Huge and growing Pokédex

Not so much

Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

Pokémon GO doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. Spin the ball before you throw for a curveball; it adds XP and makes catches more likely.
  2. Throw while the target circle is small to land Great or Excellent throws for bonus XP and better catch odds.
  3. Feed a Pinap Berry to a Pokémon you really want candy for, since it doubles the candy if the catch works.
  4. Save up evolutions and pop a Lucky Egg to do them all at once for double XP.
  5. Set a Pokémon as your buddy and walk with it to earn its candy, which is the best way to evolve rare species.
  6. Transfer duplicates you don't need; each one gives back candy for that family.
