Tips & secrets
About the game

An immortal amnesiac wakes on a mortuary slab and must discover who he was and why he can't die. Set in the strange city of Sigil, it trades combat for brilliant writing and philosophy, and is often called the best-written RPG ever.

Kit's verdict · 9.1/10It's a novel disguised as a game, and the words are the treasure. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Exceptional writing and characters
  • Dying is part of the story, not a game over
  • A setting unlike any other fantasy

Not so much

  • Combat is weak and clunky
  • Huge amounts of text to read

Play it if readers who want story and ideas above all else.

Skip it if anyone who wants an action-packed fantasy adventure.

Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

Planescape: Torment doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. Pour points into Wisdom, Intelligence and Charisma; most of the game's content is locked behind dialogue checks.
  2. Wisdom boosts all XP you earn, which makes it the most valuable stat.
  3. Avoid fights when you can; talking through conflicts gives better rewards.
  4. Dying sends you back to the mortuary, so don't reload every time things go wrong.
  5. You can switch classes by finding trainers, so you aren't locked into fighter.
  6. Talk to every companion repeatedly; their stories hold the best scenes.
