Earth is under attack and Shepard must rally every species in the galaxy for a last stand. It has the trilogy's best combat and some of its most emotional payoffs, and it ended with one of gaming's biggest fan controversies.
Kit's verdict · 8.2/10
Its combat and goodbyes are superb, even if the final minutes were rough.Kit · Sadkitty Games
Loved
- Best combat in the trilogy
- Huge emotional payoffs for long-time fans
- Citadel DLC is a perfect send-off
Not so much
- Ending divided fans badly at launch
- Fewer RPG systems and choices that matter less
Play it if anyone who played the first two and wants to see it through.
Skip it if newcomers, who will miss most of the emotional weight.
Cheats & codes
No cheat codes
Mass Effect 3 doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.
Tips
Play it better
- Do side missions before advancing priority missions, because some vanish once the story moves forward.
- Scanning systems with the Normandy finds war assets, but scanning too much alerts the Reapers and forces you out of that cluster.
- Import a save from Mass Effect 2 if you can, since dozens of characters and outcomes carry over.
- Heavy melee and evasion rolls are new and powerful, so use them instead of hugging cover all game.
- Weapon weight affects how fast your powers recharge, so carry light guns if you rely on biotics or tech.
- In the Legendary Edition, war asset requirements were rebalanced so single-player alone can reach the best outcomes.
