Loved
- 96 tracks with the Booster Course Pass
- Silky smooth anti-gravity racing
- Great for both kids and competitive players
Not so much
- Blue shells still punish whoever's winning
- Booster Course tracks look less polished
Play it if families, friends and anyone who wants quick, fun races.
Skip it if racing purists who want realistic handling.
Cheats & codes
No cheat codes
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.
Tips
Play it better
- For a rocket start, hold the accelerate button just as the '2' appears in the countdown.
- Hold a drift longer to build a mini-turbo. Blue sparks are good, orange better, and purple is the best.
- Hold shells or bananas behind your kart to block attacks from behind.
- Collect coins. Each one, up to ten, raises your top speed.
- Turn off smart steering and auto-accelerate in the menu if you want to drift properly and go faster.
- Do tricks off jumps by pressing the drift button at the lip of a ramp for a small speed boost on landing.
