Tips & secrets
About the game

Dark Knight Cecil turns against the kingdom he serves and sets out on a journey of redemption that spans the world, the underground and the moon. It was the first Final Fantasy with a character-driven story and the debut of the Active Time Battle system.

Kit's verdict · 8.5/10The game that made Final Fantasy a story series, still tight and moving today. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Fast, focused plot with constant twists
  • Active Time Battle adds real tension
  • Memorable soundtrack and villain

Not so much

  • Party is fixed by story, so little customization
  • Some dungeons drag in older versions

Play it if fans of classic 16-bit RPGs who want a big story in about twenty hours.

Skip it if players who want to build their own party and jobs.

Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

Final Fantasy IV doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. Rosa's Protect and Haste early in boss fights save a lot of trouble later.
  2. Give Edge stacks of shuriken and ninja stars to Throw at tough bosses.
  3. Grind a little before the Magnetic Cave: metal gear paralyzes you there, so carry non-metal weapons and armor.
  4. In the Pixel Remaster and DS versions, check the bestiary to learn weaknesses quickly.
  5. Buy Cabins and Tents in bulk; save points are your only safe rest spots in dungeons.
