A courier is shot, buried and left for dead in the Mojave Desert, then digs out into a three-way war over Hoover Dam and the Las Vegas Strip. Built by veterans of the original Fallout games, it is the series' sharpest piece of writing and its most reactive world.

Tips
Play it better
- Don't walk straight north from Goodsprings toward the Strip; deathclaws and cazadors guard that route, so follow the road south through Primm.
- Speech and Barter skill checks resolve whole quests without a fight, so invest in at least one talking skill early.
- Intelligence sets your skill points per level, which makes it the strongest stat for a long playthrough.
- Faction armor works as a disguise, so wearing NCR or Legion gear lets you walk through hostile camps.
- The New Vegas Medical Clinic sells implants that permanently raise SPECIAL stats; how many you can take depends on Endurance.
- Use the companion wheel to set followers to passive or ranged, which stops them charging into fights you wanted to sneak past.
- The Jury Rigging perk lets you repair any item with any similar item, which saves a fortune in caps.
