About the game

A Vault Dweller leaves an underground shelter to find a replacement water chip before everyone inside dies of thirst. This 1950s retro-futurist wasteland launched one of gaming's biggest series and defined the modern open-ended RPG.

Kit's verdict · 8.4/10It's short, grim and enormously influential, and still a great read on how freedom should work. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

Fallout doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. The water chip deadline is real, so don't wander aimlessly; pay the water merchants in the Hub to send water and buy extra days.
  2. To recruit Dogmeat in Junktown, wear a leather jacket or feed him an iguana-on-a-stick.
  3. Aimed shots to the eyes are the best way to land critical hits.
  4. Tag Small Guns and Speech for a smooth first run.
  5. Watch where companions stand in fights, since they will happily burst-fire through you.
  6. Save often in separate slots; bugs and bad encounters can trap you.
