A Sourcerer prisoner escapes an island prison camp and fights to become a god. Larian's turn-based masterpiece mixes elemental surface combat, four-player co-op and huge freedom, and paved the way for Baldur's Gate 3.

It's the best turn-based combat in any RPG, and it gives you a sandbox where almost any idea works.Kit · Sadkitty Games
Loved
- Inventive elemental combat
- Rich origin characters with their own stories
- Full co-op and a Game Master mode
Not so much
- Act 4 feels rushed
- Brutal early difficulty spikes
Play it if tactics fans and co-op groups who love clever solutions.
Skip it if players who want real-time combat or a gentle start.

Tips
Play it better
- Take the Pet Pal talent on someone early; talking to animals unlocks quests, hints and jokes.
- Focus your party on either physical or magic damage, since enemies have separate armor bars for each.
- Water plus lightning stuns, fire plus oil explodes, and blessing a surface can turn it on your enemies' side.
- Steal with a sneaky character after moving other party members away, as witnesses only notice who they can see.
- Undead characters are healed by poison and hurt by healing, so plan your party's support accordingly.
- After the first act, the Magic Mirror on your ship lets you fully respec any character.
- The Lone Wolf talent on a two-person party gives big boosts to stats and Action Points, and it's one of the strongest setups.
