Tips & secrets
About the game

Age of Empires IV brings the classic medieval RTS back with asymmetric civilizations and campaigns built around real history. Its documentary-style campaigns sit alongside a fast, competitive multiplayer.

Kit's verdict · 8.2/10A solid, modern Age game that respects the classics and smartly tweaks them. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Civs play very differently
  • Excellent historical campaigns with live-action documentaries
  • Landmarks make aging up exciting

Not so much

  • Visuals are oddly plain for 2021
  • Fewer civs than AoE II

Play it if history fans and RTS players who want a modern classic.

Skip it if players who want gritty realism or space lasers.

Tips

Play it better

  2. Spearmen beat horsemen, horsemen beat archers, archers beat spears.
  3. Keep building villagers and keep your town center producing.
  4. Use the Rus's hunting gold or the Mongols' mobile camps to play to each civ's strengths.
  5. Stone walls stop raids but cost time early, so wall only key areas.
