Tips & secrets
About the game

Fox McCloud and his wingmen fly the Arwing across the Lylat system to stop the mad scientist Andross. It's a short, branching on-rails shooter built for replays, and it launched the N64's Rumble Pak.

Kit's verdict · 8.8/10A tight, endlessly quotable blockbuster you can beat in an hour and replay for years. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Branching routes reward skilled play
  • Fully voiced, endlessly quotable radio chatter
  • Great sense of speed and spectacle

Not so much

  • Short if you only play one route
  • Multiplayer is a bonus, not a main event

Play it if anyone who loves arcade shooters and chasing high scores.

Skip it if players who want a long campaign.

Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

Star Fox 64 doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. Double-tap Z or R to do a barrel roll; it deflects incoming lasers.
  2. Use the lock-on charge shot (hold A) to hit groups of enemies at once.
  3. Save your wingmen when they call for help; a missing wingman means no help in the next stage.
  4. Collect two gold rings to upgrade lasers, and grab smart bombs for bosses.
  5. Use the brake and boost to dodge and to line up loops behind enemies.
  6. Hit 100 or more kills on most planets to earn a medal.
