Tips & secrets
About the game

Swarms of insect aliens swoop in formation while you shoot from below. The sequel to Galaxian added a tractor beam that can steal your ship, and a trick to win it back for double firepower.

Kit's verdict · 9.1/10The best fixed shooter ever made, full stop. Kit · Sadkitty Games

Loved

  • Dual-fighter risk and reward is brilliant
  • Bonus stages break up the action
  • Sharp controls

Not so much

  • Late stages get very cheap
  • Little variety after the first cycle

Play it if anyone who likes fast reflexes and high-score bragging rights.

Skip it if players who want bullet-hell density or modern shooter depth.

Cheats & codes

No cheat codes

Galaga doesn't have cheat codes. The tips and secrets below are the next best thing.

Tips

Play it better

  1. Let a Boss Galaga capture a ship when you have a spare life, then shoot that Boss while it's diving to get a dual fighter.
  2. Never shoot your captured ship directly, because that destroys it for good.
  3. Challenging stages come on stage 3 and every fourth stage after that, and hitting all 40 enemies earns a 10,000-point bonus.
  4. Kill enemies as they fly in, before they settle into formation, for higher points and less danger.
  5. With a dual fighter, your hitbox is twice as wide, so dodge with extra care.
  6. Boss Galagas take two hits, so focus on them early in a stage.
